As the association of Swiss Nuclear Power Plant Operators, swissnuclear safeguards, coordinates, and represents its members' shared interests in nuclear matters as well as in other technical and regulatory issues.
The association promotes objective dialogue on nuclear energy within the industry and wider society, and works to optimise the internal and external framework conditions for nuclear energy in Switzerland. It facilitates safe and sustainable operation of nuclear power plants and provides support during the subsequent phases of their life cycle.
The Nuclear Energy Subcommittee, the predecessor to swissnuclear, was established in 1985. Until 2017, the association of today was a specialist group of swisselectric, the former association of Swiss electricity companies. Since then, swissnuclear has been an independent organization, backed by Axpo Power AG, Kernkraftwerk Gösgen-Däniken AG, Kernkraftwerk Leibstadt AG and BKW Energie AG.

WANO unites every company and country in the world that operates nuclear power plants commercially. The organization's objective is to maximize reliability and ensure that the nuclear power plants achieve highest standards of operational safety. swissnuclear represents the Swiss nuclear energy sector within WANO.
The NEA is an organization based near Paris and is part of the OECD. It promotes intergovernmental cooperation in the field of nuclear energy. swissnuclear supports the NEA's work, for example by providing country-specific data that is used for the preparation of expert reports.
The European electricity sector association has members from 32 countries. As a member, and on behalf of the Association of Swiss Electricity Companies (VSE), swissnuclear represents the Swiss electricity companies in the "Thermal and Nuclear" working group.
The IAEA is the leading independent intergovernmental organisation dedicated to promoting safety in the nuclear energy sector; its relationship with the United Nations (UN) is governed by an Agreement. In consultation with the Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE), swissnuclear staff take part in selected IAEA events, during which they engage in discussions with representatives from other countries and organisations.
The WNA is a non-governmental organisation with over 100 members from the nuclear energy sector worldwide. Under the umbrella of the WNU (World Nuclear University), the WNA offers a wide range of training and research programmes. These include, amongst other things, the five-week "Summer Institute". swissnuclear is a member of the WNA and cooperates with the WNU.
NucNet is an international news agency based in Brussels that specialises in nuclear energy issues. swissnuclear is a member of NucNet and represents the Swiss nuclear energy sector on its committees.
ENISS is the European Initiative for Safety Standards for nuclear installations, and was established in 2005. swissnuclear represents Swiss nuclear power plant operators within ENISS, exchanges information with other members on international safety standards and regulatory measures, and issues statements on the further development of the international regulatory framework by WENRA (Western European Nuclear Regulators' Association) and the IAEA.
nucleareurope, formerly Foratom (European Atomic Forum), is the Brussels-based trade association of the European nuclear energy sector. The organisation comprises a total of 15 national associations and represents its members in dealings with the EU institutions. swissnuclear participates in various working groups within nucleareurope in order to ensure and promote dialogue with European partners.
