The third module of the “Project Management Practice Update” also marked the conclusion of the CAS “Nuclear Energy Work Environment.”
💡 Good project management doesn’t start with choosing a specific method, but with a comprehensive understanding of the initial situation and the desired goal. This begins with distinguishing between complicated and complex situations:
⚙️ Complicated situations can be challenging, but they can be analyzed and resolved with the appropriate expert knowledge. The project outcome is largely predictable.
🔮 Complex situations, on the other hand, evolve dynamically. Factors influence one another, feedback loops arise, and the outcome cannot be clearly predicted. Here, it is essential to understand the system as a whole and identify the key levers.
👉 Correct classification is crucial. After all, anyone who treats a complex situation as if it were a simple one runs the risk of missing the actual problem even with measures that seem correct.
And then, of course, there’s AI. 🤖
On the last day of the course, we explored topics such as Custom GPTs, Claude Projects, NotebookLM, multi-step prompts, prompt chains, and skills. Particularly exciting was the idea of using AI not just selectively for individual tasks, but integrating it into recurring work processes as a personal co-pilot.
With Agentic AI, this trend is likely to intensify: Routine tasks such as status reports, meeting preparations, or maintaining backlogs can increasingly be automated. This makes skills like prioritization, decision-making, communication, and leadership all the more important.
👥 However, the most important factor for success in projects is and always will be people.
Large projects cannot be successful on their own. They require people who pursue a common goal, bring different perspectives to the table, and view conflicts as opportunities. Good communication means not only providing clear information but also listening attentively.
A project can be considered successful if it brings tangible long-term benefits to those involved. After all, when people know and understand the goal, they also know why it’s worth working together to take the reins.
